Century Club

What we’re all about.

The Friends of the Palacios Library Century Club consists of ordinary citizens who generously support the activities of the Palacios & Blessing Libraries every year. Membership funds are earmarked to support the after-school homework and summer programs. These include student academic tutoring, running the summer reading events, providing free internet service, field trips, tutoring jobs for high school students, as well as other learning activities. Also, students gain computer skills and training through our programs. All these programs are hosted by the library.

The funds raised by the Century Club help the Palacios Library sustain many programs, including:

After-School Homework Program

The Palacios Library provides homework help for grades 1-5 in our community through our free Homework Program. In the 2023-2024 school year, our Homework Help program enrolled over 70 students, providing paid high school tutors for an average of 18 students per day, offering 123 afternoons of free homework help. The after-school homework program is 100% free.

Summer Reading Winner's Circle Trip

Every summer libraries across the nation participate in the "Summer Reading Program." Children read and submit a report on books they read and enjoy parties hosted by the library. Children who read the required number of books and present the book reports become part of the "Winner's Circle" and enjoy an all-day field trip where they get to tour a special place and eat out. In 2024, the Winner's Circle enjoyed a trip to Brenham and toured Blue Bell Creameries. Afterward, they had lunch and got to burn off some energy at Horseshoe Junction Family Fun Park.
